Trump on Greenland Expedition – Madness or Geopolitics?

Denmark is facing an absurd provocation from Donald Trump, who insists on making Greenland part of the USA. The democratic rules of the game are being disregarded with a nonchalance that is otherwise only seen in his golf game.
At the same time, US public institutions are undergoing massive cuts under Elon Musk’s leadership. Is the Pentagon also affected by this austerity? We don’t know. But if US defense is weakened, it is hardly Greenland that threatens the nation’s security – unless Trump has invented a new enemy in his own reality-distorted imagination.
Greenland has said no. Denmark has said no. Yet Trump insists on drawing attention away from the USA’s own problems – but the Kingdom of Denmark will not have to pay the price for his political magic tricks.
The question now is whether Trump will drag Congress along in a showdown that, if nothing else, could become history's most bizarre attempt at territorial expansion.

Samtidig gennemgår amerikanske offentlige institutioner massive nedskæringer under Elon Musks ledelse. Er Pentagon også ramt af denne nedskæringspolitik? Vi ved det ikke. Men hvis det amerikanske forsvar svækkes, er det næppe Grønland, der truer nationens sikkerhed – medmindre Trump har opfundet en ny fjende i sin egen virkelighedsforvrængede fantasi.
Grønland har sagt nej. Danmark har sagt nej. Alligevel insisterer Trump på at trække opmærksomheden væk fra USA's egne problemer – men Kongeriget Danmark behøver ikke at betale prisen for hans politiske tryllekunster.
Spørgsmålet er nu, om Trump vil trække Kongressen med i et opgør, der, om ikke andet, kan blive historiens mest bizarre forsøg på territorial ekspansion.
